Yacht storage building with holiday flats on the Black Sea near Foros, Crimea.
The flats above the Yacht storage space have full width bi-folding doors providing a wide view of the horizon over the sea and allowing the interior living spaces to feel like shaded outdoor spaces when the doors are open. Units benefit from private balconies and terraces which are offset from each other to allow for privacy. A shared rooftop terrace allows 360 degree views of both the sea and the mountains behind, which rise more than 1000 metres above sea level; glass railings all round allow full height sea views. A communal sauna is provided on the ground floor.
Setting back the glazing line 2 metres from the face of the building provides solar shading to the glass during the hottest times of the day. This set-back also creates sun-lit balconies as extensions of the indoor spaces. Port-hole windows on the east and west sides of the main spaces allow for cross ventilation and cooling of the interiors. The walls are painted white and the floor tiles are off-white to reflect as much solar radiation as possible, reducing the overall cooling requirements in summer.
Yacht House is intended to transmit the feeling of living in a Yacht, or being on a cruise vacation on an Ocean liner.
