Construction of RMA’s Seaside Residence above Yacht Storage begins

Ground has been broken and construction has commenced on Robin Monotti Architects’ Seaside Residence above Yacht storage in Foros, Crimea, Ukraine. The project has been described by many as reminiscent of a Thunderbirds or James Bondesque building, mainly due to the mixed programme of boat and housing, with a flat roof that looks like it could even accomodate a helipad. Above we can see the walls going up of the yacht storage to the left, entrance in the middle, and first ground floor residence to the right.

Here we can see a view of the site from above, looking towards the sea. The jetty onto which the yacht will be raised can be seen just in front portruding in the sea. The two builders with orange helmets are standing where the boat storage will be. The two builders to the left of the photo are working on the staircase leading to the as yet not constructed higher floors. Just to the right we can see the entrance gap.

A view looking back up towards the land, the beginning of the mountain range of Ai Petri (1234 metres above sea level at its peak) can be seen beginning to the top right of the image. Due to the high seismic risk and proximity to the Black Sea which can be very rough in Winter, the whole building is being constructed of highly reinforced solid concrete.

The concrete external wall facing East. The void for one of the tall vertical slit windows can be seen just to the right of the photo. This is one of the many such windows on the East facade. This particular window will bring dramatic light to the stair landing.
